I recently cleaned out my barn owl box and installed a better video camera, a Logitech 700i, which will record color video clips upon motion detection, and which uses the same software and display screen that my outdoor surveillance cameras use, so it will be easier to keep track of my next occupants, which are expected in early 2014.
After a couple of months of occupancy in early 2013, there was a thick layer of foul (fowl?) smelling material on the bottom of the box, including two complete rat skeletons, which I removed and replaced with fresh wood chips sprinkled with Sevin dust to discourage bees from taking over the box, as they did in early 2012, chasing out the mama barn owl who was incubating four eggs at the time.

Hi! I live in Rainbow and have had an Owl Box for a couple of years. Free rent and all the food they can eat and still nothing. Location, location, location...could that be my problem. Any advice??
